Earn stars per each Pret transaction. 10 stars equals a free treat!

If you are a regular Pret customer and you’re not collecting stars then you are missing out on some free treats! Keep reading to see just how easy it is to get some free cake!

What is Pret Perks?
Pret Perks is the loyalty app for Pret UK that lets members earn stars on every purchase. You get 1 star, essentially a stamp on a rewards card, for every transaction that is over £1.99. 10 stars equals a treat which is automatically added to your account.
Typically the treats you will get are bakery goods rather than a free drink or merch, like with the Starbucks UK reward scheme.
How can I join?
The Pret Perks scheme is free to join. It’s as simple as downloading the app and creating an account. Plus you’ll get 1 star on them just for signing up!
The app is available on both the google store and apple store. Download it here.
How do I earn rewards?
You earn rewards, in the form of stars by scanning the app when you make a purchase at Pret. So long as your transaction is over £1.99 you’ll earn 1 star.
You won’t earn stars on drinks purchased through Club Pret. But you may gain stars when your Club Pret subscription renews. The exact amount of stars you’ll get for your subscription has changed a couple of times and isn’t clear in the Pret T&Cs.
Rewards aren’t listed on their site or in their app as Pret claims the specific treat you get is based on your own spending history. But chances are you’ll get a little bakery treat to enjoy alongside a coffee.
How much are the ‘stars’ worth?
Let’s take a look at how much the stars are actually worth and whether they’re worth collecting.
You get 1 star for every transaction worth over £1.99. 10 stars equals 1 reward. Meaning you need to spend a minimum of £19.90 to unlock a Pret treat. Currently the cheapest Pret bakery item is a butter croissant at £2.70.
This means that on the lowest level for £19.90 spent, you’ll get a reward back worth £2.70. Making each star worth around 27p or an effective 13.5% cashback rate on the minimum £1.99 spend.
However, you’ll most likely be collecting stars from a coffee purchase. A filter coffee in Pret is only £1.90, meaning unfortunately this alone wouldn’t trigger a star. Other coffees range from £3.60 for an Americano to £4.25 for matchas. Let’s assume you spend on average £4 for each star you collect. Now remember, stars are rewarded per transaction not per drink, like the Costa Club is, so multiple coffees on the same order would only merit 1 reward star.
Back to the maths. You buy 10 coffees at £4 per coffee, £40 total spend to get a £2.70 croissant reward (rewards vary), this means each star is still only worth 27p but your effective cashback rate has been cut in half to 6.75%.
Do I need to be a Club Pret member?
No not at all! The two schemes are technically ran separately although they do compliment each other. Having a Club Pret subscription could mean you hit rewards quicker.
Club Pret replaced the subscription service that Pret launched a few years ago. Now instead of paying a flat monthly fee for “unlimited” (up to 5) barista-made drinks per day, you pay £5 a month to get 50% barista-made drinks up to 5 times per day.

How can I redeem my rewards?
You can redeem your rewards in the Pret Perks app by claiming them which will add them to your card and automatically be redeemed when you next scan the card. Rewards are typically only valid for 30 days after you’ve received them.
Any tier benefits?
No. There are no tiered benefits to the Pret Perks scheme. It’s simply a digital stamp card where each transaction is worth one stamp in the form of stars and you get a treat after 10 stars. Once you’ve unlocked your treat, your stars reset and you work your way back to up 10 again for your next treat.
Is Pret Perks worth it?
If you are a regular Pret visitor, then yes having a Pret Perks account is absolutely worth it. You’re spending your money there anyway so you might as well get rewarded for it every now and again. And who doesn’t love a free bakery treat?!
However, if you don’t live near a Pret or are picking one loyalty scheme to go all in on, I don’t think this one should be your focus. In terms of money spent to reward value this one is pretty high. I wouldn’t prioritise this rewards scheme over other chain coffee shop schemes which offer much better rewards.
The rewards are on the lower end of the value scale with them mostly being bakery items, plus you don’t get a choice of item either. Where as with other schemes, you have more flexibility in how you redeem your reward points, this one is very fixed.
FAQs
Let’s answer a few frequently asked questions about the Pret Perks scheme…
Do the stars expire?
It seems like currently the Pret stars don’t have an expiry date. Rather they remain in your account until you’ve unlocked your treat.
How long do I have to redeem my treat?
30 days seems to be the typical treat expiry time.
Can I collect stars on my Club Pret drinks?
No. Unfortunately you cannot collect stars on drinks ordered with the Club Pret scheme. However, you can collect stars if you buy something else with your drink that is above £1.99 spent.
You also do get stars when your subscription renews, although the exact number of stars is not listed and seems to be changing frequently. Currently this is set at 2 stars per month.
